Opera was located in the past in the location of the current Museum of Fine Arts, on the place(square) Stanislas. Built under the reign of Stanislas Leszczynski in 1758, this building(ship), conscript Theatre of the Comedy, was totally destroyed by a fire happened at night from 4 till 5 October 1906\. A competition(help) of architecture is immediately organised to decide on its reconstruction, and it is the project of an Italian-style theatre of Joseph Hornecker that is chosen by the jury. New opera will be inaugurated on October 14th, 1919, the World War I by having delaying construction. In 1994, conducted by Thierry Algrin, Opera makes the object of a big(great) restoration(catering) objective of which is to recreate as before the room such as it was the day of its unveiling. At the beginning of the year on 2006, the Ministry of Culture and Communication grants in the Opera of Nancy and of Lorraine the status of national Opera in region. He(It) is renamed(reappointed) national Opera of Lorraine and becomes so the fifth national Opera in region of France, sign of gratitude(recognition) of the quality of his(its) artistic work and of skills of his(its) teams.
