Dolmen de Boumiers
Les Raudières, 37800 Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine
  • Indre-et-Loire
  • Centre-Val de Loire
This dolmen of the Neolithic was built by men(people) living at the time of the «new Stone age» when the hunters-gatherers became of settled farmers-breeders. The abbot Jean-Jacques Bourassé, archaeologist native of Sainte-Maure, is the first one to describe this dolmen in 1842 in his inventory «the Celtic Monuments of Touraine». He is registered registered in conformance with(for) historic monuments by ministerial decree of May 14th, 1945\. Rectangular, he(it) consists of four supports(media), all oblique inwards, and of a big(great) table which overflows towards the back. Managed southeast in the northwest, he(it) is established(constituted) of six stones of different dimensions(size). A table of the shape of a right-angled triangle is pressed on big stones vertically implanted on earth, it produces the effect of a high, raw(gross) roof of 1,70 m. This calcareous turonien megalith and sandstone is the vestige of a covered path. A covered path is trained(formed) of a double row of trained stones, covered with paving stones. He(It) establishes(constitutes) a Neolithic burial, a funerary monument with the opening towards the raising sun.
