Musée départemental breton
1 Rue du Roi Gradlon, 29000 Quimper, France
The Museum owes its birth to the rise of learned societies in the 19th century and to the enthusiasm of 'antiquarians' (as archaeologists were then called) for the past of Finistère and Brittany. Set up in Quimper in 1845, the archaeological society of Finistère began the following year to form the collections of the departmental museum. He was going to gather the most remarkable objects originating from all the Finistérien territory. This founding decision allowed one of the most important public archaeological collections in western France to be gathered at the Museum.
