Design and characterisation of hybrid soft materials containing octahedral transition metal clusters

Solid State Chemistry and Materials (CSM) team
Abstract
Transition metal clusters (MCs) with the general formula [(M6Li8)La6]n- units exhibit strong emission in the red–NIR region and enables the generation of singlet oxygen, making these compounds attractive for applications in lighting, optoelectronics, sensors, and photodynamic therapy. To enhance their processability and application versatility, MCs are incorporated into soft materials.
This HDR presentation will highlight strategies developed for the functionalization of MCs and their integration into multifunctional soft materials such as liquid crystals and polymers. Recent advances in the development of smart materials will be presented, as well as ongoing projects and future research directions toward new MCs assemblies with polymers and semiconductors for the inactivation of bacteria and solar cells applications.
