Exploring the city centre of Wambrechies
The «Cité du genever» is located just 7 kilometres north of Lille on the banks of the Deûle. Although the texts that mention Wambrechies date from the fourteenth century, the parish is much earlier than this date. The village experienced a significant boom when Jeanne de Constantinople, Countess of Flanders, channelled the Basse Deûle from Lille to Deûlémont. The appearance of textile and agro-food industries as well as the seigneury of Wambrechies mark its history and contribute to its reputation.
