The Geneva Escalade is not limited to the scaling of the city walls. Events of varying significance also take place outside the walls: some are well-known, sometimes intertwined with a touch of legend, while others have now been forgotten. Patrice Delpin invites you to rediscover this lesser-known aspect of the Escalade, to reexamine certain long-held misconceptions, and to shed light on their origins. During this lecture, the Genevan historian will also discuss a citizen who tragically died during the Duke of Savoy’s campaign but who, strangely, has been completely absent from the collective memory: he was the 19th victim of the Escalade. Nearly a century after Albert Choisy identified Jacques Billon as the 18th victim of the attack, this injustice will thus be rectified as we approach the 425th anniversary of the Miraculous Deliverance of our city...
