Here, the machines have been silent since 1973\. The miners have deserted the place, but everything still breathes their work, even in the great landscape that constitutes Couriot. Occupying the old buildings of the mine, now classified as historic monuments, the museum introduces you to their machines, their trades and their lives, and makes you feel the magnitude of underground work. Great emblem of the coal past of Saint-Étienne with its two crassiers and its chevalement that dominate the city, Couriot is also a place of life. With its walkway and park, it is good to come there with friends or family, to participate in the many events that it organizes or hosts (exhibitions, night tours, concerts, art installations, International Design Biennale, Science Village, Sainte-Barbe...).
