Inaugurated in 1888, the building designed by Toulon architect Stanislas Gaudensi Allar is distinguished by its monumental sculpted facade, enamelled and U-shaped plan. Today, the MAT labeled «Musée de France» and the Art Library share common missions within this same place. Following extensive work, the museum will open again to the public in 2021\. Collections On the ground floor, old and modern art: The collection of old and modern art revolves around the theme of landscape. The focus is on 19th century painters from Marseille and Toulon (Loubon, Courdouan, Nardi...) and on marine painting. Another highlight of the collection: the Orient and the journey in the Mediterranean. On the first floor, contemporary art: From the 1980s onwards, acquisitions were oriented towards contemporary art.
