Durch einen glücklichen Zufall lebten und arbeiteten Joseph Fourier und die Champollion-Brüder in der Hauptstadt von Dauphiné unter dem Ersten Kaiserreich.
Ihre fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit führte später zur begehrten Entzifferung der Hieroglyphen durch den jüngsten von ihnen, Jean-François Champollion, und ebnete damit den Weg für eine neue Disziplin: die Ägyptologie. Joseph Fourier, großer Diener des Kaiserreiches und Präfekt von Isère, hat auch unsere Abteilung durch die Leitung großer imperialer Projekte geprägt. Joseph Fourier, ein weltweit bekannter Mathematiker wie auch die Champollion-Brüder in der Ägyptologie, gilt aufgrund seiner Arbeiten zur analytischen Theorie der Wärme als Begründer der mathematischen Physik.
Ihre universellen Entdeckungen haben unsere Zivilisation tief geprägt. Der Schmelztiegel ihrer Grundlagenforschung befindet sich in Grenoble; wir werden ihn während dieser Reise durch die Altstadt auf den Spuren unserer drei berühmten Persönlichkeiten sehen.

By a happy coincidence, Joseph Fourier and the Champollion brothers lived and worked in the capital of Dauphiné under the First Empire.
Their fruitful collaboration would later lead to the decipherment of hieroglyphics by the youngest of them, Jean-François Champollion, opening the way for a new discipline: Egyptology. Joseph Fourier, great servant of the Empire and prefect of l'Isère will also have marked our department by the conduct of major imperial projects. Joseph Fourier, a world-famous mathematician as well as the Champollion brothers in Egyptology, is considered after his work on the analytical theory of heat as the founding father of mathematical physics.

Per una fortunata coincidenza, Joseph Fourier e i fratelli Champollion hanno vissuto e lavorato nella capitale delfiniana sotto il Primo Impero.
La loro collaborazione fruttuosa porterà più tardi alla decodificazione tanto ambita dei geroglifici da parte del più giovane di essi, Jean-François Champollion, aprendo così la strada a una nuova disciplina: l'egittologia. Joseph Fourier, grande servitore dell'Impero e prefetto dell'Isère, ha lasciato la sua impronta anche nel nostro dipartimento con la conduzione di grandi progetti imperiali. Joseph Fourier, matematico di fama mondiale come i fratelli Champollion in egittologia, è considerato a seguito dei suoi lavori sulla teoria analitica del calore come il padre fondatore della fisica matematica.
Le loro scoperte di carattere universale avranno profondamente segnato la nostra civiltà. Il crogiuolo delle loro ricerche fondamentali si trova a Grenoble; lo vedremo durante questo percorso nella città vecchia, sulle tracce dei nostri tre illustri.
