15 Rue du Lau, 91490 Milly-la-Forêt, France
Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) is a polymorphic artist. His meeting with Serge de Diaghilev, patron and founder of the Ballets Russes, disrupts his artistic journey. He tries poetry, theater, criticism but also becomes a filmmaker. He directed in 1946 the film 'Beauty and the Beast' for which he received the Louis Delluc award. His work is deeply marked by ancient myths, notably in the plays 'Antigone' and 'La Machine infernale'. Jean Cocteau and Jean Marais buy the bailiff’s house in Milly-la-Forêt in 1947\. Cocteau wrote the poem 'Requiem' and conceived the film 'Le Testament d'Orphée'. Entered the French Academy in 1955, he retained this property until his death in 1963\. He is buried in the chapel of Saint-Blaise-des-Simples which he himself had decorated in 1959.
