Hidden behind the facade of the former gendarmerie of Berck (1871), the Opale South Museum discovers unknown riches. In the middle of the 19th century, Berck, which lives mainly from fishing, becomes a popular holiday resort. Artists, like Édouard Manet, stay there. Ludovic-Napoléon Lepic is the first to settle there. Around him, creates informally 'the School of Berck'. The museum today defines itself as a 'crossing point', between land and sea, between untamable nature and the daily life of the past. The permanent collections faced with the current creation are in perpetual movement. The museography, original and dynamic, associates works and elements of interpretation. The museum also unveils an exceptional archaeological collection on regional discoveries.
