The Hotel Drouot
Hotel Drouot will be open on 19 and 20 September from 11am to 6pm, with free entry, and will offer a particularly attractive selection of exhibitions and auctions that will take you into the workshop of illustrious artists such as Camille Claudel or Edgar Degas, in the intimacy of an internationally renowned star – which will be revealed in September –, in the memories of a mythical and unusual Paris, or even in the pantheon of French chanson and its icons.
Multiple opportunities to discover our mythical institution by celebrating all the heritages.
The path
Push the doors of the Hotel Drouot and discover behind the scenes of an institution unique in the world. All day long, this temple of auctions is constantly bustling and becomes morning and evening the theater of a meticulously choreographed ballet between auctioneers and their teams, handlers, carriers. From the delivery dock to the corridors, from the freight elevators—the first hydraulic lifts in Paris—to the vast warehouses of the Magasinage, the works circulate in a perfectly orchestrated sequence. Throughout the visit, you will learn about the mechanisms of the daily operation of the Hotel Drouot and the logistical issues related to the annual sale of some 300,000 works of art. A passage through the archives will plunge you into the rich and singular history of this emblematic place, open to the public since 1852.
In Drouot, even the backstage is a spectacle!
