Follow the guide on the path of the caves and go back in time, to prehistoric times!
Discover the history of the occupation of the caves and enjoy a walk through the green countryside of Chalosse.
The hike is done on natural trails, provide hiking shoes and pants (tall grass). Good physical condition required. Total distance traveled: 7km. Reservation required. Not accessible to PRMs.

The site is renowned for its female statuettes from the Gravetienne period, representative of the Paleolithic. The excavations carried out from 1981 to 2004 have brought to light the existence of other cavities belonging to the same network as the Pope’s cave. They contain levels of occupation dating from the first half of the Upper Paleolithic. Elements of adornment, bone industry and antlers as well as some human remains were revealed during the excavations. The site is an important testimony of the first religious expressions of modern men in Western Europe. True testimony of the levels of occupation in the Upper Palaeolithic, plot WK 36 is the seat of a historic chain. Its importance is both heritage and scientific. This plot includes other cavities (cave of the Hyenas, Dubalen shelter, gallery of the Megaloceros) which are part of the same network as the Pope’s cave.
