In cooperation with the Association of Friends of Edmond Verstraeten (1870-1956), a Belgian impressionist artist, the Impressionisms Routes© network is organizing from April 2 to September 28, 2026 at the Musée de L'esquisse, in Barbizon (France), an exhibition devoted exclusively to the "Master of Sombeke".
Belgian Luminism is an original adaptation of the impressionist concept of French origin. It expresses the clearest irradiations of light and the search for pictorial effects capable of reproducing them... In 1904, most of the Belgian Impressionists presented themselves under the new banner of the "Life and Light" Association around Emile Claus.
The most active luminist focus is then in East Flanders, in the region of Ghent as well as in the valley of the Lys, where Jean Delvin, Léon de Smet and Edmond Verstraeten are noted for the quality and variety of their works.
