Occupied since Prehistory, the site of Maguelone shelters since the 6th century the seat of one of the primitive dioceses of Languedoc. Ruined in the 8th century, the city came back to life in the 11th century, then became papal property and developed. The site was gradually abandoned from 1536, when the episcopal see was transferred to Montpellier. In 1852, Frédéric Fabrège acquired the estate, then excavated, restored and replanted it. The peninsula now hosts a Help Center by the work entrusted to the Companions of Maguelone.
