At 4:30 pm, discover the architectural heritage of the theatre during a guided tour led by Marine Maupetit, architect, and Lola Pivet, responsible for the mediation actions of the Avant-Scène Cognac.
Their enlightened and passionate looks will allow you to better understand the architectural richness of the building.
Duration: about 1h15.
Free visit, open to everyone, without registration.
NB: Unfortunately, some parts of the route are not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

During part of the 19th century, the theatre was a private establishment that received municipal subsidies. However, the city’s desire to equip itself with a performance building often appears in council discussions. From 1899, the city’s architect, Lucien Roy, studied the transfer of the public meeting room to the site of the old water tower, unused since 1885\. This new performance hall occupies exactly this site. A first restoration of the theater took place between 1962 and 63\. The last renovation works took place in 2000 with the construction of offices, the renovation of the large room and the construction of the small room. Created in 1989, L'Avant-Scène Cognac is a cultural association managing the theatre which offers a multidisciplinary programme. She also offers the public a street art festival, Coup de Chauffe, in September and which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024.
