Das Maison d'Enfants à Caractère Social (MECS) Louis Warein wurde 1869 durch das Vermächtnis von Edmond Warein gegründet und ist ein emblematischer Ort der Sozialgeschichte von Hazebrouck.
Ursprünglich war sie für die Aufnahme von verwaisten oder mittellosen Mädchen gedacht, aber sie zeugt vom philanthropischen Impuls des 19. Jahrhunderts zugunsten des Schutzes der Schwächsten.
Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte hat sich die Einrichtung weiterentwickelt, um den Wandel des Kinderschutzes in Frankreich zu begleiten. Aus einem Waisenhaus mit erzieherischem Zweck ist es zu einem Kinderheim geworden, das Jugendliche aufnimmt, die der Sozialhilfe für Kinder anvertraut sind, mit Praktiken, die sich auf die Begleitung, Erziehung und die Aufrechterhaltung familiärer Bindungen konzentrieren.
Seit ihrer Integration in die EPDSAE im Jahr 2018 verfolgt die MECS Louis Warein diese öffentliche Aufgabe innerhalb eines modernen und individualisierten Systems.

Originally intended to accommodate orphaned or destitute girls, it reflects the philanthropic impulse of the 19th century for the protection of the most vulnerable.
Over the decades, the institution has evolved to support the transformations of child protection in France. From an educational orphanage, it has become a children’s home for young people entrusted to the child welfare service, with practices focused on support, education and maintaining family ties.
Since its integration into the EPDSAE in 2018, MECS Louis Warein has pursued this public service mission within a modern and individualized system.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, this exceptional opening invites you to discover a place steeped in history, whose architecture and heritage tell more than 150 years of commitment to children. Nel corso dei decenni, l'istituto si è evoluto per accompagnare le trasformazioni della protezione dell'infanzia in Francia. Da orfanotrofio a vocazione educativa, è diventato una casa per bambini che ospita giovani affidati all'Aiuto sociale all'infanzia, con pratiche incentrate sull'accompagnamento, l'educazione e il mantenimento dei legami familiari.
Dalla sua integrazione nell'EPDSAE nel 2018, la MECS Louis Warein continua questa missione di servizio pubblico all'interno di un dispositivo moderno e individualizzato.
