Until 1954, the only place of worship in Blonville-sur-Mer was the parish church of Notre-Dame de la Visitation, located 3 km from the current center of Blonville, in the lands. The majority of the parishioners in the centre of Blonville went to services in the church of Saint-Christophe de Bénerville, which they called a chapel closer than their parish church, whose parish priest was the vicar of the two parishes.
But the development of the secondary residences made that the small church of Bénerville, was too small for the number of the faithful. In 1951, Abbé Loudière, then parish priest since 1945, initiated the creation of an Association of parish works of Blonville-Bénerville, until 1972, mainly for the construction, in the center of Blonville, of a chapel and a meeting room
From 1952, this initiative was relayed and amplified by his successor: Canon Duvieu who remained parish priest of Blonville-Bénerville until 1972 and who found great support with the Parish Association, including the first president from 1951 to 1965, was Monsieur Jean Roucher.
In 1953, three parishioners generously ceded to the Parish Association their lands on which this chapel is now built. They are Madame Chassany and Monsieur and Madame Bamberger. It was then possible to build it, thanks in particular to the special generosity of a dozen families of parishioners benefactors of Blonville-Bénerville, residents or summer dwellers, reinforced by many other individuals.
The ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone took place on July 26, 1953, under the presidency of Monsignor Jacquemin, coadjutor of the bishop of Bayeux and of Lisieux, Monsignor Picaud. This stone is visible on the outside, at the symmetrical location of the threshold of the side entrance.
This chapel was consecrated and opened for worship during the episcopal blessing of August 10, 1954.
It was not until 1960 and 1961 that the eleven frescoes painted by Jean-Denis Maillart, a Parisian painter and man of faith who had taken an interest in this building thanks to a parishioner and soon supported by Canon Duvieu and other parishioners who once again showed their generosity, alongside the Syndicat d'Initiative de Blonville-sur-Mer.
The artist had the freedom of the conception of his works with the supervision of Canon Duvieu who, during the conception and realization of the works, watched over the very high liturgical and didactic qualities of these. It is this almost daily maintenance that allowed to reach the precise symbolism of each of the frescoes.
