Two guided tours of the Romanesque church on Saturday at 6pm and on Sunday at 3pm. The church was excavated in 1999, and remarkable features were discovered. Photo exhibition.
Some parts of the nave are Romanesque. The bell tower, built in the 16th century, is pierced by pointed openings in its upper part. The summit spire, embellished with four bell-towers, is made of limestone.
Excavations carried out between 1999 and 2001 revealed:

  • burials, some of which date back to the Bronze Age or the Iron Age, but most of them from modern times.
  • part of the structure was Romanesque or pre-Romanesque (I.S.M.H. 1927).
  • one litre hidden under the plaster of the south and west walls, with the coat of arms of the Croismare family, owner of the castle from 1628 to 1768.
  • the most beautiful discovery was that of the statue of St Pierre. Found in the ground, outside the church near the south wall of the nave.
  • Second Italian Empire mosaic (terrazo alla vennezianna). Ancient cobblestones visible under the platform
  • under the grey plasters and cements of the walls of the nave appear: large stones on the south wall, a north wall entirely built according to the OPUS SPICATUM method (fish edges), a construction technique used from the Romanesque period until the end of the 11th century, both in the churches of the region, at Anisy or Cambes en Plaine, and in the large cathedrals as at Durham in northern England.
This wall is composed of limestone patches and more rarely flint, has undergone many modifications with the layout of openings that were enlarged or obstructed. This wall formed a quadrilateral of about 12m by 6 which was lengthened in the twelfth century by 3m at the back of the church. (see the color difference related to a different proportion of clay). The exterior buttress on the site of the junction of the two buildings is typical of the 11th century.
