The famous composer of Fellini's film scores also composed operas: not serious, dramatic operas, but light operas in which life takes center stage, with lilting, light, uplifting melodies. Written in 1945-1946 during the Liberation, Il Cappello di paglia di Firenze (The Straw Hat of Italy) is a farce inspired by Eugène Labiche.
