Étienne Godier erforscht eine breite Palette alter und zeitgenössischer fotografischer Verfahren, indem er analoge Drucke mit digitaler Arbeit mischt.
Seine Werke nehmen meist die Form kleiner, wertvoller und fragmentierter Formate an, wie Fragmente unvollendeter Geschichten. Ein und dieselbe Fotografie kann in mehreren Variationen im Bild der Erinnerung existieren, die sich mit jeder Erzählung verwandelt.
Eine lange Zeit trennt oft die Aufnahme und den Moment, in dem das Foto seine endgültige Form findet. Das Bild durchquert mehrere Zustände und wird auf verschiedenen Papieren dargestellt. Diese aufeinanderfolgenden Experimente sind so viele Schritte auf der Suche nach einer gerechten Form, bei der die Materie in den Dienst der Emotion gestellt wird.
Jede Fotografie wird so zu einem Feld der Erkundung, das zwischen technischer Beherrschung und dem Zufall schwankt und der Unvollkommenheit ausgeliefert ist.

Étienne Godier explores a wide range of photographic processes, ancient and contemporary, by hybridizing analog print and digital work.
His works often take the form of small, precious and fragmentary formats, like fragments of unfinished stories. The same photograph can exist in multiple variations, like the memory that transforms with each story.
There is often a long time between the taking of the shot and the moment when the photograph finds its final form. The image crosses several states and is declined on different papers. These successive experiments constitute as many steps in the search for a just form, where matter is at the service of emotion.
Each photograph thus becomes a field of exploration, oscillating between technical mastery and part of randomness, at the mercy of imperfection.

Étienne Godier esplora una vasta gamma di processi fotografici, antichi e contemporanei, ibridando la stampa analogica e il lavoro digitale.
Le sue opere prendono più spesso la forma di piccoli formati, preziosi e frammentari, come frammenti di storie incompiute. Una stessa fotografia può esistere in molteplici variazioni all'immagine del ricordo che si trasforma ad ogni racconto.
Spesso passa molto tempo tra lo scatto e il momento in cui la fotografia trova la sua forma definitiva. L'immagine attraversa diversi stati e si declina su vari documenti. Queste sperimentazioni successive costituiscono altrettante tappe nella ricerca di una forma giusta, in cui la materia si mette al servizio dell'emozione.
Ogni fotografia diventa così un terreno di esplorazione, oscillando tra padronanza tecnica e parte casuale, in balia dell'imperfezione.

Étienne Godier explore une large gamme de procédés photographiques, anciens et contemporains, en hybridant tirage analogique et travail numérique.
Ses œuvres prennent le plus souvent la forme de petits formats, précieux et fragmentaires, comme des éclats d’histoires inachevées. Une même photographie peut exister en de multiples variations à l’image du souvenir qui se transforme à chaque récit.
Un temps long sépare souvent la prise de vue et le moment où la photographie trouve sa forme définitive. L’image traverse plusieurs états et se décline sur différents papiers. Ces expérimentations successives constituent autant d’étapes dans la recherche d’une forme juste, où la matière se met au service de l’émotion.
Chaque photographie devient ainsi un terrain d’exploration, oscillant entre maîtrise technique et part d’aléatoire, à la merci de l’imperfection.

Étienne Godier explora una amplia gama de procesos fotográficos, antiguos y contemporáneos, mediante la hibridación de impresión analógica y trabajo digital.
Sus obras adoptan más a menudo la forma de pequeños formatos, valiosos y fragmentarios, como fragmentos de historias inacabadas. Una misma fotografía puede existir en múltiples variaciones a la imagen del recuerdo que se transforma con cada relato.
Suele pasar mucho tiempo entre la toma de la imagen y el momento en que la fotografía encuentra su forma definitiva. La imagen atraviesa varios estados y se presenta en diferentes papeles. Estos experimentos sucesivos constituyen tantas etapas en la búsqueda de una forma justa, donde la materia se pone al servicio de la emoción.
Cada fotografía se convierte así en un terreno de exploración, oscilando entre el dominio técnico y la parte aleatoria, a merced de la imperfección.
