Archives considered a hallucinogenic substance
Can or should everything be archived? And should everything be digitized?
Lundi 29 janvier, 18h00Passé
Bibliothèque de Genève
This talk revisits a text published in 1986 and dedicated to "The Archive". The work was seen as provocative at the time of its publication, at a time when our societies were becoming aware of the value of "heritage". Its re-publication in 2023 bears witness to the growing success of the same phenomenon, in the age of the "Heritage of Humanity". Michel Melot's talk will provide an opportunity to reflect on current debates on the generalized preservation of the past, and the insoluble sorting issues raised by its development in the digital age.
An evening organized in partnership with the Chair of Digital Humanities (UNIGE)
