Bei Einbruch der Dämmerung, als alle aus einem vom Weltuntergang heimgesuchten Land fliehen, hält Joseph an der südlichen Grenze. Maryam hält an. Gemeinsam, eine Nacht lang, laufen sie nach Norden und durchqueren ein Gebiet, das vor ihren Augen explodiert. Von tiefen Wäldern in verfallenen Dörfern, geheimnisvolle Begegnungen - ein Delfin, ein alter Mann, vielleicht ein Engel... - beleben ihre Wunden, ihre Liebschaften und stellen sie der Gewalt gegenüber, die sie bewohnt. Und dort oben, glühender als alle anderen, erleuchtet der Nordstern, die Nördliche, ihren Weg.
In einer erhabenen Sprache, die mit Registern und Erwartungen spielt, Karim Kattan zeichnet einen Roman von intensiver Schwingung, in dem sich Antik und Moderne, Mythos und Wunder verflechten.

Die Belgazou-Erzählerin, das kurze und eindringliche erste Buch des Künstlers Mascare, wird von flehenden Stimmen aus der Vergangenheit bevölkert. Diese Stimmen, die sie erweckt, sind die der Harkis. Sein Großvater war einer von ihnen, der im Alter von 13 Jahren während des Algerienkrieges in die französische Armee eingezogen wurde. Dieser Mann spricht nicht [...], doch die Wunden schreien und die Erzählerin erfindet für sie eine eigene Sprache, die die französische Sprache und ihre Rechtschreibung zerstört."

At dusk, while everyone is fleeing a country in the throes of apocalypse, Joseph hitchhikes to the southern border. Maryam stops. Together, for one night, they speed north, cross a territory that explodes before their eyes. From deep forests to ruined villages, indeed mysterious encounters – a dolphin, an old man, an angel perhaps... – revive their wounds, their loves, and confront them with the violence that inhabits them. And up above, brighter than all, the star of the North, the Northern, lights their way.
In a sublime language, playing with registers and expectations, Karim Kattan signs a novel of intense vibration, where ancient and contemporary intertwine, myth and wonder.

Insieme, per una notte, si dirigono verso nord, attraversando un territorio che esplode sotto i loro occhi. Dalle foreste profonde ai villaggi in rovina, da incontri misteriosi - un delfino, un vecchio, forse un angelo... - ravvivano le loro ferite, i loro amori, e li affrontano alla violenza che li abita. E lassù, più ardente di tutte, la stella del Nord, la Settentrionale, illumina il loro cammino.

De forêts profondes en villages en ruines, de bien mystérieuses rencontres – un dauphin, un vieillard, un ange peut-être… – ravivent leurs blessures, leurs amours, et les confrontent à la violence qui les habite. Et là-haut, plus ardente que toutes, l’étoile du Nord, la Septentrionale, éclaire leur chemin.
