It bears the name of a priory demolished in 1673, initially installed on the current Place Saint-Ferjeux, a few tens of meters to the north. Built under Louis XI (before 1480), it replaces a square tower from the mid-14th century. This is the first of the artillery towers built in Langres. The influence of royal power is here evident. It is not a construction like the others; it overcomes the generally square medieval towers, covered and slightly protruding built in Langres during the medieval period. This tower marks a new generation; that of structures adapted to the new weapon that is artillery fire, imposing, expensive, equipped with stone shell unmatched compactness... For this purpose, it has walls up to 6 meters thick; the summit terrace, open to the sky, is equipped with embrasures intended to receive large-caliber pieces. The height of the tower has been calculated so that the canons on the terrace are at the same topographic level as the ground in front of the Porte des Mouli
