Galerie de Rohan - Landerneau

In the context of BD 2020, the national year of comics, the City of Landerneau has benefited from an exceptional partnership with the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image d'Angoulême for the realization of this 11th exhibition of the Galerie de Rohan.
The exhibition "La bande dessinée d'expression française aujourd'hui" presented this summer is an adaptation of an exhibition organized as part of the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2017, by the City of Angoulême. It presents the current trends of the French-language comic strip (by the presence of French, Belgian, Swiss and Quebec authors), with an emphasis on its specificity.
For about twenty years, the 9th art has known in France and in French-speaking countries a vitality recognized throughout the world, which is characterized by a plurality of its aesthetics and the emergence of new territories of experimentation.
Now considered as an artistic language in its own right, with an ability to represent and decipher the world with its own codes, comics influence several other arts such as cinema, literature, plastic arts, animation cinema and video games. It is from this remarkable rise that the exhibition wants to report, highlighting several emblematic authors figures and their major works.
Different thematic are mentioned:
The revival of genre comics,
Intimate stories and inner worlds,
The comics of non fiction,
When the cinema feeds on comics.

The gallery of Rohan

Created at the initiative of the City of Landerneau, the Rohan Municipal Gallery aims to introduce established and emerging contemporary artists as well as new artistic expressions.
This former bookshop, located in the Saint-Thomas district, transformed into a space of art exhibitions and contemporary creations, with a surface of 180 m² is established as an essential cultural place in Landerneau.
Opened in 2015, it aims to sensitize the widest public to this plural artistic expression that is part of a true cultural policy, aiming to democratize art, by free access and by a service of cultural mediation for visitors.
In 4 years, nearly 60,000 visitors have pushed the door of this place of cultural diffusion to discover contemporary artistic diversity thanks to the collection of works presented.

Around the exhibition

A game book is available free of charge to families.

The visits

The gallery’s mediators are available to the public to answer questions and guide them through the exhibition rooms. The reception of adult and school groups can be done from September depending on the evolution of the reception conditions in public places and by reservation.
