Les Fulgurantes is a transdisciplinary project that brings together improvised music and live or projected drawing in a shared, immediate, risky, and vibrant gesture. Through this encounter between sound and visuals, we seek to bring forth a raw, spontaneous, and poetic form of collective expression.
There is a flash of brilliance in each performance—a strike, a tear, a flash of lightning. Something like lightning, something irreversible. What is given is received without mediation. What emerges will not return. Listening takes shape, a line is drawn, a breath is held.
But these sudden appearances do not come out of nowhere.
Each performance is preceded by a period of work, exchange, and shared research between visual artists and musicians. Residencies, rehearsal sessions, recordings and videos, and laboratory spaces allow a common field to be opened up: inventing formats, experimenting with materials, testing rhythms, searching for the right harmony (or disharmony). It is on this ground that flashes of brilliance are prepared.
The collective is fluid. Les Fulgurantes welcomes different configurations, from duos to larger groups. What matters is not the final form, but the quality of presence, the way in which gestures—whether sonic or graphic—dialogue, stretch, rub against each other, and sometimes contradict each other.
It is a project that asserts an urgency to create, a need to be together in the moment. No score, no narrative. Just bodies in tension, in attention. It is not a demonstration, it is a contact: between mediums, between temporalities, between presences.
Les Fulgurantes are those moments of fire, of friction, when something overflows. An invitation to listen with your eyes, to see with your ears.
In the fulgurated sense.
For this first Fulgurantes encounter, musician Viva Sanchez Reinoso meets illustrators and performers Margherita del Balzo and Lara Lemmelet at the Ferme de Marsillon.
