Brittany always enticed the artists of the whole world. This year, in partnership with the national Gallery of Prague, the Museum makes you discover the works of painters and Czech engravers of the XIXth and XXth centuries, inspired by this beautiful region.
Naturalistic painters, who observe the life of finistériennes populations, to the surrealists, who gave an original and poetic vision, sea, nature and suits(costumes) attracted major artists of this country from 1860s. Among them famous Alfons Mucha, master(teacher) of Art nouveau and Franti š ek Kupka, exposed(explained) this year to the Grand-Palais.
From June 16th till September 30th, 2018, it is 80 Breton works of Czech artists that will be presented for the first time in France, in the exhibition halls of the Breton departmental Museum. They make the object of an exceptional loan of the national Gallery of Prague and of the main Czech museums. Exhibition(Exposure) is presented in Quimper before its opening in Prague.

A museum created in 1846 for a heritage of an exceptional diversity
The Museum owes its birth to the development of the learnt companies(societies) in the XIXth century and in the enthusiasm of the "antiquarians" (this is the way(that's how) the archaeologists were then called) for the past of Finistère and of Brittany. Established(Constituted) in Quimper in 1845, the archaeological Company(Society) of Finistère began next year to train(form) the collections of the departmental Museum. The Museum was intended(designed) from the start to collect the most remarkable patrimonial objects relating to the department of Finistère: objects coming from archaeological excavations(searches), fragments of monuments saved from destruction It was one of also first of France to train(form) a collection of popular regional art and of applied art (suits(costumes), furniture, ceramic, etc.) . For 1980s, the enrichment of the collection resolutely turned(shot) to the creation of the XXth century in the domains of applied arts and of diverse modes of representations of Finistère: sculpture, painting(paint), engraving, poster, photography, etc. These collections count about 60 000 works and objects today: only a part(party) can be presented. Rotations of works in rooms, temporary exhibitions(exposures), to the Museum or everywhere else, allow to discover this heritage of an exceptional diversity.
