The MEG is partnering with the Grand Théâtre de Genève to host three Apéropéras, echoing the Afrosonica – Soundscapes exhibition.
Apéropéra
A slice of life, a slice of laughter, a slice of music: this is the sofa that will accompany our urban aperitif. Come and sip your vermouth or spritz in the company of some funny characters. It's an opportunity to (re)discover a composer, a work or a theme from a fresh and contemporary angle, far removed from the usual recitation of historical dates. A format rich in anecdotes from yesterday and, above all, today. It's also an opportunity to hear performers in a repertoire similar to the production!
The MEG and the Grand Théâtre de Genève are joining forces to host a unique performance on Thursday 15 January 2026: ApérOpéra Bab Geneva, a poetic plea conceived and performed by Amel Merabet, accompanied by music from Amel Daiffallah and their guests.
Inspired by Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri and the MEG's Rencontres exhibition, this creation traces an intimate journey: from Algiers to Geneva, from absence to presence, from history to the silences that only poetry can illuminate.
Amel Merabet, the ‘poetess of the courtrooms’, leaves the courtrooms for one evening to take over the museum. There she presents three imagined pleas, three stories set to music, three paths that question our inner thresholds.
Because in Arabic, Amel means ‘hope’.
And on 15 January 2026, hope will knock on the door of Bab Geneva.

Le MEG s’associe au Grand Théâtre de Genève pour proposer trois Apéropéras en lien avec l'exposition « Rencontres » et l'exposition permanente.
Apéropéra
Une tranche de vie, une tranche de rire, une tranche de musique : voici le canapé qui accompagnera notre apéro urbain. Venez siroter votre vermouth ou spritz en compagnie de drôles de personnages. L’occasion de (re)découvrir un compositeur, une œuvre, une thématique sous un angle frais et contemporain loin de l’énumération des dates historiques. Un format riche en anecdotes d’hier et surtout d’aujourd’hui. L’occasion en plus d’entendre des interprètes, dans un répertoire cousin de la production !
Proposition artistique
Le MEG et le Grand Théâtre de Genève unissent leurs voix pour accueillir, le jeudi 15 janvier 2026, une performance singulière : ApérOpéra Bab Geneva, un plaidoyer poétique imaginé et porté par Amel Merabet, accompagné de la musique d’Amel Daiffallah et de leurs invité·e·s.
Inspirée par L’Italienne à Alger de Rossini et par l’exposition Rencontres du MEG, cette création trace une traversée intime : d’Alger à Genève, de l’absence à la présence, de l’Histoire aux silences que seule la poésie sait éclairer.
« Poétesse des prétoires », Amel Merabet quitte pour un soir les salles d’audience pour investir celles du musée. Elle y déploie trois plaidoyers imaginés, trois récits mis en musique, trois chemins qui interrogent nos seuils intérieurs.
Parce qu’en arabe, Amel signifie « espoir ».
Et ce 15 janvier 2026, l’espérance frappera en duo à la Bab Geneva.
