The Khene, Polyphonic Bamboos – The Echo of the World’s Sounds
The MEG and the Archipel Festival are pleased to welcome Sombat Simla, an adventurous khene artist. The khene is a bamboo mouth organ found in East and Southeast Asia. A master of this singular instrument, Sombat Simla carries on a traditional practice while also experimenting with new musical processes, including striking and unexpected imitations of scenes from daily life. Through these explorations, his music expands our listening experience of this ancestral instrument, both gently melodic and powerfully resonant. The concert will be followed by a discussion with Yasuhiro Morinaga and Win Chujitarom.
This event continues MEG’s musical series, MEGAFOLK, dedicated to the pathways of sound—its traditions and its transformations. Each concert is followed by a conversation with the artists, offering insights into their music, their instruments, and the contexts in which their practice is rooted.

Sombat Simla
Le khène, bambous polyphoniques – l’écho des bruits du monde
Le MEG et le Festival Archipel ont le plaisir de recevoir Sombat Simla, artiste aventureux du khène, un orgue à bouche de bambou d’Asie de l’Est et du Sud-Est. Maître de cet instrument bien particulier, Sombat Simla perpétue une pratique traditionnelle, tout en expérimentant de nouveaux processus musicaux, notamment avec des imitations de scènes de la vie quotidienne, aussi troublantes qu'inattendues. Grâce à eux, sa musique ouvre vers une écoute étendue de cet instrument ancestral, à la fois doucement mélodique et puissamment sonore. Le concert est suivi d’une discussion en compagnie de Yasuhiro Morinaga et Win Chujitarom.
Cet événement poursuit la série d’unités musicales du MEG, MEGAFOLK, dédiée aux cheminements du sonore, ses traditions et ses transformations. Chaque concert est suivi d’une rencontre avec les artistes pour évoquer leur musique, leurs instruments et les contextes dans lesquels s’inscrit leur pratique.
