The night of the Escalade (2022)

Mon-Fri: 9am to 6pm, Sat: 9am to 12pm

Bibliothèque de Genève

closed: Saturday 3 December 2022 and from Saturday 24 December 2022 to Monday 2 January 2023 inclusive

A living tradition, the Escalade has been celebrated by the people of Geneva since the 17th century. The publication of La nuit de l'Escalade in 1915 and of Le Siècle de la Réforme in 1917, two books illustrated by Édouard Elzingre, helped to popularise the event and influenced the costumes of the historical procession. This exhibition shows the most striking images of this famous night of 11-12 December 1602. Ah, the beautiful Escalade!
