A repair café in the heart of the museum.
"Facing up to the environmental emergency: meetings to reflect and act": Care, repair and sustainability.
With ever shorter product cycles and programmed obsolescence, consumer goods such as Kleenex seem to have become the norm today. The FRC refuses to accept this state of affairs and instead advocates sustainable consumption. This is why it organises its Repair Cafés, based on the Belgian concept that has spread throughout Europe.
The idea is simple: turn up with an appliance to be repaired, such as a toaster, grinder or record player. With the help of specialists, you can get your hands dirty and fix the problem - if possible! This proposal is intended to thumb its nose at the throw-away society: Repair Cafés give a new lease of life to defective appliances, extending their lifespan. As a bonus, you'll leave with a few extra skills. And a few tips: because the "durability" of a product, in other words its "repairability", starts with the act of buying.
In this "Rendezvous for reflection and action" we look at the issue of care and repair. All over the world, indigenous peoples manage their environment through an ethic of care and a culture of repair. As such, they are contributing to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Throughout the day, various activities will be organised: a discovery visit for children, a repair café, a bicycle self-repair workshop, a discussion and film screenings. We hope that this will give us a new perspective on the objects that surround us and enable us to put into practice in our daily lives an ethic of care and repair that will allow us to act sustainably to preserve the environment.
This event takes place on the first Sunday of the month and is therefore free of charge and requires no prior registration.
