  • Invited in 2014 as part of the public art program of Bordeaux Métropole to design an artistic creation based on the theme of the Garonne, the British artist Suzanne Treister proposed for our territory a reflection entitled «Les vaisseaux de Bordeaux», divided into three sculptural interventions.
Passionate about technology, the advances and dangers it represents, and the imagination it evokes, she has taken an interest in the history of the river and its technique, especially in the systems that control water.
    _
After «The spaceship» at the Bassin-à-flot and «The observatory/science fiction library» at Floirac, she imagines on the banks of the Garonne «The well/library on the technique», the last element of her triptych. This kiosk evokes on the one hand the neoclassical architecture in reference to Bordeaux and the pavilions that incited to contemplation in the English gardens as at the Petit Trianon in Versailles, and on the other hand assumes a resolutely contemporary aspect, herald of the very current problems it contains. _
    _
Inside, around a dummy well that echoes the power of the nearby river, windows present the books of great thinkers who have warned about the consequences of technology. By inviting us to discover texts and authors of reference, Suzanne Treister’s work encourages us to become aware of our technological dependence. _
Work of the public art program of Bordeaux Métropole carried out as part of the public commission of the Ministry of Culture – Direction générale de la création artistique / Direction régionale des affaires culturelles Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
