As part of its strategic reorientation, MEG has undertaken a decolonial process and wishes to reorient its museological strategy.
A cycle of meetings is proposed to give tracks of understanding of this problem.
Marie Van Berchem proposes a snack accompanied by readings about colonialism in her artistic installation called La bateauthèque. From the 18th century to the present day, the meeting drifts through history, focusing on the transatlantic trade and the intensive slavery and exploitation practices associated with it. Marie van Berchem brings together the memory of slavery and colonization from a Swiss and contemporary perspective, through the reading of extracts from various sources: historical, critical and philosophical essays, archival documents, songs, poems, oracle cards, speeches, testimonies, interviews, theater, fiction...
Speaker Marie van Berchem, artist, Geneva
