Art Brut, Singular Art - Youen Durand invites Marc Morvan
To celebrate the centenary of the birth of Youen Durand (1922-2005) , the former director of the Lesconil auction, visitors will discover at the Semaphore of Lesconil a selection of his most beautiful paintings composed with thousands of tiny shells in their natural colors: enchanted landscapes of Brittany and scenes of life filled with wonder. The inventor of an art born by the sea, Youen Durand shows a sublime world for audiences of all ages. His unique treasure often makes him compare to the Horse factor.
In front of the Semaphore, as from the nearby ocean, a Tuna monumental sets the scene. This sculpture by the artist Marc Morvan, made with recycled steels from decommissioned fishing boats, marks the pride of the inhabitants of the sea. In the Semaphore, astonishing sculptures by Marc Morvan show the universe of an artist endowed with an energy and a sensitivity that reveal a close relationship with the author of the seashell paintings. On the coastal trail, visitors will encounter a Orca and, at the port of Lesconil, a Yellow submarine the cockpit inhabited by a Bigoudene.

The Semaphore of Lesconil is a former semaphore of the National Navy, bought by the municipality of Plobannalec-Lesconil in the early 2000s, converted into a temporary exhibition site in the summer and entrusted to cultural associations for the rest of the year.
It was in the eighteenth century that a first guard post was built on the highest dune of the Palue, opposite the point of Goudoul. The first semaphore was commissioned in 1806 but the construction of the current semaphore dates back to 1860\. The semaphore monitored the coast from Penmarc'h to Loctudy, the rescuers who witnessed the numerous shipwrecks working in collaboration with the harbour lifeboat. They sounded the alarm with a small alarm gun and used a mooring gun to establish a back and forth between the wrecked boat and the land.
The other role of semaphore was to provide mariners with an overview of the weather. To do this, the spotters hoisted black cones at the top of the mainmast which were called «pochoù an amzer
