Before 1870, the village of Froeschwiller had only one church for the two religious communities of the village. The war of 1870 started, and after the defeat of the French armies in Wissembourg, the men of Marshal Mac Mahon settled on the heights of Frœschwiller where takes place on August 6, 1870, the battle called, «of Reichshoffen», which caused at least 20,000 deaths.
During this battle, the church is in flames. It housed the wounded from both sides who were evacuated to the nearby Castle before it collapsed. The Prince Royal Frederick, places the reconstruction of the church under his personal protectorate. To finance the work, a call for generosity is made to the German people. The donations are such that they make it possible to build two churches, one for each of the religious communities.
This church has architectural features. Built from August 6, 1872, on the foundations of the collapsed church, and on the plans of the architect of the Historic Monuments Charles Winkler, the
