Exhibition "Elles sortent de leur(s) réserve(s)

From September 16, 2022 to February 13, 2023, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux's tribute to women artists continues in the Museum's Newsroom!

In the wake of the Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) exhibition, the museum's tribute to women artists continues from September 16, 2022 in the museum's Newsroom. More than sixty artists from the collection "come out of their reserve(s)" and invite you on a journey through the history of women's art, from the 16th to the 21st century, thus completing the works of women artists already presented in the permanent exhibition. For the majority of them, these works leave for the first time the obscurity of the museum's storerooms where they are kept for a hanging in the light of the picture rails of an exhibition room.

Famous or not, from Bordeaux, Paris or abroad, all of them give to see, in a particular setting inspired by the hanging of the museum reserves, a testimony of their talent which was exercised in various mediums: painting, drawing, print, miniature, photography, ceramic, sculpture and tapestry. The public can contemplate the works gathered by major subjects: the nude, history painting, portrait and self-portrait, still life, landscape, genre scene ... mixing formats and centuries.

And from July 2022, discover a preview of three contemporary works from the exhibition (Virginie Barré, Camille Henrot, Jagoda Buić) as you stroll through the permanent collections Lacour wing dialoguing with three works from the 16th to 18th century (Lavinia Fontana, Marianne Loir, Marguerite Gérard). A foretaste before the opening of the exhibition!

Open every day from 11am to 6pm except Tuesdays and some holidays. See online schedule.
