Midsummer Dinner at Rosenborg Castle

Experience recognisable raw ingredients in surprising contexts and have your contemporary expectations about the form and content of a meal challenged. Midsummer Dinner at the Castle will offer a culinary journey around the royal high table of the 1600 and 1700s. Come and taste 150 years of royal culinary art, when Rosenborg invites you to an atmospheric dinner experience in the footsteps of kings and queens.

A Historical Dinner Experience

The evening’s menu has been developed by Jasper Kure, the head chef of Orangeriet, together with historian Louise Sebro, and places the raw ingredients and dishes of various periods in a modern and elegant context. The many tasteful servings will combine the sensuous meal of the 1600s with French cuisine of the 1700s, and offer delicacies of the period.

The aromas of warm Renaissance spices will circulate in an open-sided tent with a view of the castle. 150 years of royal table decorations will take us back in time, while musicians entertain us with courtly music, as though we were guests at Christian IV’s refectory table.

Louise Sebro has devoted herself to historical cookery for many years, for example when she was the director of Herregårdsmuseet Selsø (Selsø Manor Museum). As the evening’s host, she will present the individual servings and speak about changing gastronomic tastes. Through brief accounts from Rosenborg, the evening will offer insight into how the meal has taken place at the royal dinner table for four generations of kings.

This is the first time that we are inviting the public to this particularly atmospheric experience, which will take place very exclusively for six evenings in the castle grounds. The final menu will be released later.
